In 1999 The Economist in an article on Mongolia branded the monument as the first contemporary sculpture in Ulaanbaatar ever. Unfortunately, people in Mongolia have not forgotten their Stalinist or "Kim Il Sung"-ist tastes yet. They still insist on depicting their leaders just and only in heroic and pompous poses. Therefore, two years after inauguration of my monument an ugly mass of concrete has been elected under the granite pedestal which had originally been situated on the pavement level. Well, I do sometimes imagine sarcastic comments Zorig himself would make about such a construction...
